Dorking Refugee Support is an informal and dedicated group of local residents trying to support refugees and asylum seekers, whether they are already in the UK or abroad. The group formed in the summer of 2015. Several volunteers in the team have gained knowledge and experience of various aspects of the refugee crisis. We now have trusted contacts to send aid to Syria, Yemen, Greece, and organise collections and fundraisers to help them (See the pages: collections and fundraisers) We have a running hosting hub of about 10 hosts, working with the charity Refugees at Home and have welcomed over 40 refugees and asylum seekers who would have been homeless otherwise. We are now coordinating events for the Ukrainian refugees who have settled in the area (See the page: Hosting) We are now aiming at increasing and improving our response by reaching out to more local residents who want to get involved. (See the page: how can we help?). You can email us at [email protected] for questions and further information.
