Dorking Refugee Support is an informal group of local residents trying to support refugees and asylum seekers. We formed in the summer of 2015 and several volunteers in the team have gained knowledge and experience of various aspects of the refugee crisis. We support refugees and asylum seekers in Dorking who have been made destitute by cracks in the state support system. We host them whilst other accommodation is found, as well as supporting them financially, practically and helping them integrate into the community. We work with other refugee charities in the UK and more locally in Surrey. These have included Rock For Refugees, Anaya Aid, Epsom Relief Network, and Refugees Welcome in Surrey. We also raise awareness of the issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers.
