MVDC are in urgent need to more empty properties to welcome more refugees: they do not want to negatively affect the needs of people already on waiting list for housing, and are therefore looking for private landlords and landladies to rent properties out to them (the Council), which is what central government requires in order to fund the resettlement of a family. We would like to do everything we can to help on that front: please ask far and wide, talk to your school, your church, your colleagues, your friends. The basic requirements imposed by the government are: self contained, equipped with water/gas/electricity, and NEAR TOWN CENTRE. The rates are roughly LHA rates, but negotiable, and there are no agency fees. If you can help: please contact us urgently or contact the Council team directly: volunteersupport@reigate-banstead.gov.uk
Regular Social Mornings at Epsom Methodist Church
The Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network has arranged for a social morning for Ukrainian families in this area - and their hosts - once a fortnight at the Epsom Methodist Church starting on Saturday 30th April, from 10am-1pm. There will be space for families, including children's activities and refreshments. All Ukrainian families are welcome and their hosts are also welcome to meet up to make connections with other hosts in the area. Please note that there is no parking available at the Church so alternative arrangements need to be made.
Weekly Get-together for hosts & guests in Bookham
Every Saturday morning 10-12 The Meeting Place Bookham coffee shop has a Ukrainian support group that meet up which folk find very helpful. It is for hosts, guests and other interested parties. The Coffee Shop is in the Baptist Church Hall, on the Lower Road in Bookham. There is plenty of parking available in the car park next door (don't forget to buy a ticket!).
